Ubuntu 11.04/11.10 Binary Installation
For the impatient and those that just don't want to bother with compiling from source in order to use a newer version of Xastir, there's a user provided binary package that can be installed with only a few mouse clicks.
The binary package for Xastir that is available in the Ubuntu 11.04 or 11.10 repositories is older and lacks the latest updates.
Providing a more up to date alternative, the latest user-provided Xastir binary can be downloaded via the link below:
Note: the binary was originally created for Ubuntu 11.04 and is labeled as such, but it works fine in 11.10 as well.
The binary (deb) package is installed using the GUI application,'gdebi'. In order to ensure that gdebi is installed, open a terminal window and enter the following:
sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install gdebi
Alternatively, you can search for gdebi using the Synaptic package manager and install it from there.
Once downloaded, installing the xastir deb package is as simple as double clicking (or right-clicking) the file in the file manager. (It should be only a single click in Kubuntu)
